HSE quality is good and emergency response is strong; the system bottleneck is specialist waits. Private hospitals and clinics offer minimal waits and match European standards.
The private market
Private clinics and hospitals operate nationwide (Beacon, Blackrock, the Galway Clinic). Insurance is affordable at €80–250/mo, private consults run €100–180, and upfront payment with direct billing is typical.
